Overview

An analysis of the firmware shipped for the ECUs of a 2021 Ford F-150, from small microcontroller images to large multi-processor and QNX-based modules.

Scope

  • Extraction of firmware from vendor update packages across the vehicle’s modules
  • Reverse engineering of proprietary container formats with no public specification
  • Static analysis of several hundred binaries in Ghidra, including the instrument cluster and the front camera and radar ADAS module
  • Triage of the binaries to prioritize vehicle-specific code
